| Hey everyone! I haven't been on much because it has been a tough time recently health wise and when my body is broken, my brain doesn't work, either! Been doing a study in Proverbs and studying what it means to be a fool. It is important because Jesus warns us against calling people a fool and says it is as bad as murdering them. So....It seems to me that Psalms defines a fool several times and is pretty clear. Psa 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works; There is none that doeth good.
So... I am assuming that a fool is someone who says there is no God. Proverbs seems to indicate that a foolish person is someone who believes in God but lives like they don't. A scoffer seems to be someone who is not teachable. We are told to stay away from foolish people and not to try to correct scoffers. We are supposed to be teachers of men and light to the world. However, the Scripture also warns us to avoid certain people. Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them that are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine which ye learned: and turn away from them. We are also told don't be unequally yoked...and don't be deceived, bad company corrupts good morals. So my question is: How do we know who to stay away from and who to avoid? It feels judgmental to decide that a person is someone I should stay away from, and yet, the Scripture is clear that we are to stay away or avoid certain people.
Any thoughts?????_________________ When I am weak, then I am strong! |

What I have come to realize, Sue, is that the Holy Spirit tends to guide me in this. Myles and I work with MANY scoffers. I have personally had to learn not to take it personally. Rather, after trying a few times, I leave them to the sin they have chosen but I continue to smile and greet them warmly in order to show the love of Jesus. However, once they have made it clear that they are not interested in him, I do not bring them into any of my close knit circles. I just want them to know that I'm always there if they NEED to talk about things in general but I cease to initiate. I think what helped me the most was just being able to continue to love and care for them but realizing that it didn't mean I had to associate with them. _________________ So say we all!
