Hey they everyone! Please take a second to read this scripture and let me know your thoughts and you think is being said here. I'm pretty sure after reading some commentaries what is being said, but this forum has so much wisdom that I would love to hear your thoughts.

1 Peter 4:5-6 ESV but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.6 For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.

I have always believed that it refers to the fact that Christ ascended into Hades after he was crucified. I definitely could be wrong, though. I will be interested to hear what you have come up with.

People who have walked in sin and who speak harmful lies about them are taken back due to the whole TRUTH of spending all of eternity paying for their sin. And this goes for everyone as God made clear He will judge the living and the dead.

As for the gospel being preached to “those who are dead” Peter I feel; was speaking of those who has heard and accepted the “gospel of Christ” when they were still alive, but who died prior to his writing of this letter.

If this is the case as they were saved and martyred already, they were now alive in the Kingdom of Heaven! That’s how I take it to mean…
