One of the things that has always been a blessing to me is to see what Scriptures bless others and what Scriptures help others get through the "tough times." So I thought I would start a post where we could share with one another. 2Ti 3:16-17 says " Every Scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work." Please feel free to post as many as you like as often as you like. When you find another one, post it! If you want to give a short testimony with it, that's great. But it is fine to just post a Scripture. 1Th 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Explain to me how you want us to pick just one scripture that hits us! Okay as I have mentioned before I used to have a little issue with depression, so verses like the following are a great reminder of...why would I be depressed? scratch

Psalms 42:5
"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God

Myles, I love that Scripture. He says the exact same thing 3 times in chapters 42 and 43. I liken to him saying, "Hey soul! What's your problem?? Get your act together and start praising!" lol!

There have been so many it's hard to choose!

One story that my wife and I like to tell is about John 9:3

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him"

Our oldest son was born legally blind. We were young, 20 and 22 and were not really walking with the Lord. Through the birth of our son and many other factors, we were beginning to seek God again. We felt guilty, almost like God was punishing us for living in rebellion of what we knew was right and we thought we deserved this! Obviously now it looks real stupid, but at the time, this is where we were at.

My wife prayed to God that she needed help to get through this and remembered someone telling her that God would give her a scripture to help. Blind was the word on her mind so she looked up scriptures with the word blind in them.....this is the first one she came to and God melted our hearts.

It was immediately clear to us that God was in control, that he was good, and that he loved us and had healing for our family. That was the beginning of us really walking with the Lord. Obviously we aren't perfect (that will be apparent enough the more I post..lol) but life has never been the same since that moment.

I thank God for his word......and for his goodness.

Well...mine kinda looks silly compared to yours Skipp! That melted MY heart thinking of the perfect comfort and timing of finding that scripture exactly when you needed it.

Myles, there is not silly! That's what I want...anything that blesses you! I have 2 that I really like. The first is Psa 27:13-14 "I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of Jehovah in the land of the living. Hope in Jehovah; be of good courage, and He shall make your heart strong; yea, hope in Jehovah." Some versions say I would have despaired.

The second is Heb 13:15 "By Him, then, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, confessing His name."

Quote:
Matthew 28:16-20
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

This one has always been one of my favorites and this is why! You have to remember that throughout the disciples Christian walk, they had had Jesus right there with them, in the flesh the whole time and now Jesus was leaving them. He gave them their final commandments from Him and was preparing to ascend to heaven and I truly believe that He could feel the heaviness of their hearts at His leaving... yes He had promised them the Holy Spirit but they didn't know the Holy Spirit in the way that they knew Him. His response?

Quote:
Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Any time I am in a dark moment and feel alone, this verse comes to mind and comforts me in ways I can't begin to explain! Praise you Jesus and thank you for being my sacrifice and never leaving me! I love you infinity!

Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!

One that has a lot of meaning to me is

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Shortly after God changed my life in 2008 this scripture was everywhere I looked. It was like He was showing me that his promise was true. That he keeps all his promises to us.

By the way, that is in KJ just for YE Myles!

Wow ya'll are so inspiring, I love all of the verses and how they touch ya'll. Well I have two verses that have really changed my life:
"We love, because He first loved us." John 4:19
Anyone who has read my testimony has seen how many bad relationships I have been through. I have always been on this quest in my life to find love. I always thought it would come through a relationship with another person, God was the disciplinarian not someone who loved me. Well I was given the name of a wonderful author Max Lucado and he wrote a book called a love worth giving, one of the first pages was this scripture. I learned that without knowing Gods love how do we truly know how to love. This verse changed my life!!
The second one is:
He who loves God must also love his brother. John 4:21
This verse helped me go to work. I know that sounds silly but its where I work. Myles and Henry know what I am talking about. As a renewed christian I figured I would have some nay sayers and I was right, I had some challenges at work and I was reading the bible and that passage stood out like a neon sign. I wrote it down on a piece of paper and stuck it on my fridge so it is what I see before I go to work. It really helps me to see these people as Gods children and I must love my brothers and sisters.

I love those verses shine. It reminds me that Jesus himself said when a lawyer asked his what the greatest commandment was. Mat 22:36-39 says, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Here's a few other good one's to keep in mind at work Shine

"Do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men" Colossians 3:23

Yes our some of our supervisors and management are not very good people and maybe they don't care about us. But we should'nt use that as an excuse to slack off or neglate our duties....

"Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving eachother, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you" Ephesians 4:32

It's safe to say we work with some negative people. And it's safe to say we work with some people that just down right have bad intentions. We just have to stay strong and do as God has called on us to do......

Shine, I don't think he mean to say you meant that. I think those verses are encouraging to Mike and so he thought he'd share them with you. I know for me, there certainly are times at work that I get to feeling a little blah and will remind myself of those same verses to keep from reacting the way a lot of people do up there. The thing is, when people around us hear that we have chosen to follow Christ, they will begin to nitpick and try to find anything they can to point out that we are wrong or not really "Christian".

For this reason we have to remember who it is we are serving and quote scripture constantly as well as pray continuously in order to remain strong and a good example of Christ.

Great scriptures, Mike.

LOL, no need to be defensive Shine! I just happen to like those verses and thought I would share them. I use them to encourage me when I'm feeling blah, like Henry said.....

Okay....I know this one is hard to actually do! But...it is still one of my favorites! It helps me when I feel down and am having trouble praising God because it gives such a high standard. I mean, really! This guy is having a hard time in his life! And he is saying, "If I have lost absolutely everything, I will still praise God! What a concept! I kind of thought that is when we get to start whining and complaining! lol

Hab 3:17-19 "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places."

Sometimes the scripture needs no explanation. This one should be a constant challenge to us.

Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

Scott

That is one of those Scriptures that sounds easy, but is so hard! Has to go hand in hand with "Study to show yourselves approved unto God, a workman that no be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth!" (II Timothy 2:15)

So many wonderful scriptures. Since I read Sue Woodring's testimony this morning I am going to mention one of my favorite verses in the Bible. In fact I like the entire chapter.

Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart!

Yes, I know this is not a promise for that grand house on the hill, a new car or even a job. I have needed the Lord's help in completing my part of the bargain. God has honored that request. I used to be a 'fraidy cat'. Delighting requires trust and trust removes fear. That is an awesome side effect. Then comes those desires he puts in my heart like to love His word, to know more of Him, and to share him. The more I have and cultivate those desires the more fulfilled I am, no emptiness!

Something cool about that verse. If you look up the word give in this verse, in the hebrew it is pronounced naw-than and spelled nathan. Some of the synonyms that can be used in place of it... apply, appoint, ascribe, assign. Try filling that word in with one of these and see what you get. It's completely different than how we originally saw it. Awesome stuff!
