What version of the Bible do you like to read the most? Why do you like that version the best? I am not talking about what you would recomend to someone else to read...what version do you like to "Snuggle up to" when you are spending time alone in the word of God?

Funny Jared...funny Suspect

Here is why I love the King James so much. First of all its poetic, the type of language and phrasing it uses truly "sets it apart" from other writings. When I read other books and even "Bible Teachings" it is clear that although they are about the Bible...they are not the Bible. I just love the Word of God to stand out and be set apart from all other writings, especially modern day writings.

flower If I had a KJV study Bible that might be my favorite for all the reasons Myles stated. I used an NIV for years almost exclusively. That was before I became aware of its inaccuracies in so many places. My Bible of choice today is the Ryrie Study Bible in the NASV. I often use the online Blue Letter Bible. When I do, I usually go to the NKJv version.

I still like the KJV for memory work. That has caused me some problems because my memory will mix up the different versions.

Blessings Everyone,

Destiny, I love reading those kinds of Bibles. They make the stories very easy to understand and I learn a lot of facts from them. Keep having your daddy read to you! It won't be long before you'll be reading to him!

Destiny, thanks so much for your recommendation...my son Riley is 6 and I have been looking around for a good Bible for him Very Happy

I read the Nelson NKJV Study Bible and love it because of the explanations before each book about the origin and what not...its more than a Bible to me because it helps me understand the background of each book.

You know Destiny... one day you may be reading to your Dad. Your Dad truly is a blessing! Keep following after Jesus, little lady, and you can't go wrong!

So my favorite, can't live without version, is the ESV. I have to say that the reading is great and the notes have been fantastic for study! But I will say that the NKJV is not far behind it! Notice the "N" in front.

I agree with Myles, I would give all the reasons that I think the king James is the most pure to to original, but I do not want to bore you. I am with Noreen in that memorizing the king James is good because it is so different it is easy to remember. It is also poetic. The new king James keeps the intent but is easier to read so that is why I use it in my sermons and reading time. It is really the only version I use.

KJV forever
Scott

I prefer the Amplified over any other because it is easier to get the sense and meaning without having to learn Greek, Aramaic or Hebrew. It is harder to read than a NKJV, NASB or NIV but I have always found it much easier to understand. I think it is more important to understand the overall concept or story (this is what parables did because at the time the people did not understand the spiritual meaning, but they remembered and could relate to or had experienced the story) over punctuation or grammar, although these things are important also.

Nehemiah 8:8 "So they read from the Book of the Law of God distinctly, faithfully amplifying and giving the sense so that [the people] understood the reading."

I also use the KJV a lot and the NIV, NASB some. The Bible is about one person and never contradicts itself so even though some versions have been corrupted (to some extent) if you want to know the truth you will find it.

It is definitely worthwhile to research a little about the history and source manuscripts of your favorite translation.

I actually have done allot of comparing from Bible to Bible, and I get the most understanding out of the King James. There are certain scriptures that come across so much more POWERFUL in the King James than the other translations. Like I said I used to be an NIV die hard! The KJ just stands apart...in my opinion. I however am not saying its the ONE TRUE version at all...just my go to Bible.

Here is another question

How many times have you repaired your Bible? Do you wear it out...or just go get a new one when it starts breaking apart? My Bible has been GLUED, TAPED, REFORMED...even been SIGNED by an obnoxious friend Suspect ! Yet I just love this Bible...I love it! It gives it character!!! I have actually had people offer to buy me a new one! Cant do it though!!!
Razz

I actualy before leaving to come to my current job bought 4 exact copies of the same Bible. One of the guys (known as Shadowcop here) is very good at calligraphy so he wrote all of our names in each. So it reads as a gift to one from the other three! It makes it a little more special I guess, knowing my old study group has the same copy as I.

I had a car stolen once and my bible was in my car. I got the car back but my Bible was gone. I was happy thinking that someone felt bad and kept the bible and would hopefully get some benefit out of it.

Not the case....about two weeks later I got a call from an older lady who found my bible on the side of the road and had it for me. When I went to pick it up I was amazed. This sweet lady showed me one of the most awesome acts of kindness. Most of the pages had been bent and folded and had road tar on them. She took the time and cleaned all of the pages and then used a very cool setting on her iron and ironed EVERY page that wasn't in good shape.

She was so happy to do it and would not let me pay her. I will never forget that sweet lady.

That's a really cool story, Jarod! I actually had a Bible stolen out of my car once. It was when the "Love" Bibles came out. I had it in the back window of my car and someone took it. I just prayed for them. Hopefully, God used it!
